This weeks blog comes to you from C. J. Davenport, one of our youth group members and one of our Youth Interns this year.

Love. This word holds a meaning that often times is overused and underrated. What is love? When we hear this word, most people think of relationships, whether it be marriage or dating, but there is a deeper meaning of this word. In the bible, specifically in 1 John chapter 4, it says “anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” Along with this, God’s commandment in many chapters of the gospel of John is to love one another just as He loves us.

Too many times I have seen this word taken out of context. Love is an incredibly powerful feeling, and there are many attributes that go along with having love for one another. A great example that has helped me in seeing if I have “been love” or in other words living a life that is glorifying God by showing love to others in all situations comes from 1 Corinthians, showing the attributes and characteristics of love.

“Love is

  • Patient
  • Kind

Love does not

  • Envy
  • Boast

Love is not

  • Arrogant
  • Rude

Love does not

  • Insist on its own way

Love is not

  • Irritable
  • Resentful

Love does not

  • Rejoice at wrongdoing

BUT, Love

  • Rejoices with the truth
  • Bears all things
  • Believes all things
  • Hopes all things
  • Endures all things

Love. Never. Ends.

As the sons and daughters of the One True King we are loved. And not a playful, familiarized love. God loves us unconditionally and will do anything to bring us into His Kingdom, even sacrifice His Son on a cross. Paul shows us before this that a person can speak in the tongues of men and angels, have faith to move mountains, give away all he has, and deliver their body up to be burned, but if they do not have love, they are nothing. After his description of love, Paul writes that prophecies will fade away, tongues will cease, knowledge will pass away, but LOVE IS NEVER ENDING.

The point I am really trying to make is that without love, we, even being Christians that are saved by the Lord, are ultimately nothing. We have gained nothing if we are without love. It surpasses all knowledge and wisdom and all of the ways of the world. Are you living a life of love?
